Dr Shereen Brifcani
Consultant Clinical Psychologist in Neuropsychology

Dr Shereen Brifcani is a highly experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist working in Neuropsychology. She has worked in both NHS and independent sector, healthcare settings since 2004, qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist in 2009. Her primary areas of expertise are in neuropsychology and neuropsychiatry, having also spent a five-year period in forensic services. Her career to date has been dedicated to supporting individuals with complex clinical and psychological needs.
Clinical Experience
Shereen has worked extensively in both community and outpatient settings. Her work has focused on adults with neurological conditions, neurocognitive difficulties, mental health presentations, and behaviours of concern.
Shereen has worked as a treating clinician with brain injury claimants, their families and treating teams since 2015. She has worked as an expert witness in personal injury and clinical negligence litigation since 2017. She has previously (2013-2016) written reports for Social Services and the Family Court regarding impact of mental health, personality and risk/offending upon parenting.
Shereen has worked in employed practice alongside independent work until 2024, since which time she has been working fully independently.
Shereen's employment since qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist has included work in secure psychiatric services (2009-2014), where she provided in-depth assessment and treatment for adults detained under both civil and forensic sections of the Mental Health Act (1983). Shereen has worked for the Welsh Neuropsychiatry Service inpatient unit providing clinical input to patients, and contributing to service improvement (2015-2019). She worked as service lead for the Cwm Taf Morgannwg Community Neurorehab Service, which provided coproduced rehabilitation for adults presenting with a wide range of neurological diagnoses, including acquired brain injury and degenerative conditions (2019-2021). She then worked as the lead consultant psychologist and as part of the senior management team at St Peter's (neuropsychiatric) Hospital; this role involved clinical provision for patients with progressive and non-progressive neurological conditions including dementia, Huntington's disease, acquired brain injury, and alcohol related brain damage. This role also involved supervision, management and development of the psychology department and wider hospital (2021-2024).

Shereen draws upon a range of standardised psychological and neuropsychological assessment tools, alongside evidence-based clinical frameworks, to inform formulation, treatment planning, and interventions. Her work includes evaluating cognitive, emotional, and behavioural functioning following injury, and integrating these findings into tailored rehabilitation recommendations. She delivers therapeutic interventions to support post-injury recovery and adjustment, cognitive and emotional coping, risk management, and overall psychological wellbeing, with a focus on fostering autonomy and functional outcomes.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Shereen works closely with a wide range of healthcare professionals, contributing neuropsychological insight to multidisciplinary planning and supporting integrated, holistic, and person-centred care.
Supervision, Teaching & Professional Development
- Supervision & Consultation: Shereen has provided clinical supervision to psychologists since 2010 and offers consultation to professionals across all healthcare disciplines.
- Professional Development: Shereen receives regular clinical supervision from a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist.
